Maybe there’s no need for flossing… said no dentist!
A NY Times article on Tuesday, on the effects/need for flossing, stated: The American Academy of Periodontology acknowledged that most of the current evidence fell short because researchers had not been able to include enough participants or “examine gum health over a significant amount of time.”
Advice: Don’t stop flossing!! Yes, believe it or not, there are not many scientific studies regarding flossing because it works!! Science usually studies things when there are problems with something-not when it is working! Scientists HAVE studied periodontal disease and pocketing (after failing to floss). By the time periodontal disease is present, bleeding occurs and studies show that flossing helps in the eradication of the disease.
So, don’t stop the great habits-use an electric brush and floss and keep your recare appointments!
